من جهة أخرى يعتبر الفلم لقاء بين كاتب مغمور وقارئ نهم، كلاهما يملك فلسفة خاصة للحافظ على العالم، فرغم أن حياة الأول مفككة ولا يكاد ينعم بلفظ (بابا) من ابنه عندما يناديه، إلا أنه يكافح لأجل حياة كافة أفراد عائلته بما فيهم زوج طليقته، رأينا أداءً أفضل لـ جون كوجاك في أفلام إثارة سابقة له، حيث فقد في هذا الفلم السمت الخاص بطبيعة الشخص العادي، وُجد في موقع البطل القدري (accidental hero)، بل تمادى بأن تعاطى مع كافة الأحداث ببطولة وانفراد وهذا ما فرضته عليه طبيعة الفلم الذي تحول إلى superhero movie ، فالعالم الجيولوجي بطل يناضل لأجل بقاء العالم، والرئيس الأمريكي بطل بخياره النبيل يصر على البقاء مع الفانين، ورئيس الوزراء الإيطالي بطل يصلي مع المتعبدين في الكنائس، وبقية رؤساء العالم أبطال يوافقون على التضحية بحياتهم نفسها لأجل صعود 4000 شخص آخرين معهم في سفن النجاة، والمليونير الروسي بطل يضحي بحياته لأجل نجاة توأمه، وحياة من تبقى من البشر مرهونة بقرار من شخص عالق في واحدة من سفن النجاة، بعدما تسلل لها من سرداب خلفي..
ما ستشاهده من دمار وكوارث واحدة تلو الأخرى سيصيبك بالفزع والهلع أكثر مما تشاهده على ملامح الشخصيات، ذلك أنهم لو كانوا يرون فعلاً ما ترى لانطلقت منهم التعابير بشكل أفضل، وأداء أقوى؛ لذا حري بنا أن نثمن جهود المونتاج والمؤثرات البصرية لما أعطته من أدق التفاصيل عن ملامح الفناء وانهيار المباني والجسور وتصادم المركبات وانزلاق الأرض وفيضان المياه، فعلاً لم يترك المخرج واحدة من الكوارث الطبيعية إلا وأدرجها، وخلال الـ 158 دقيقة وهي عمر الفلم لم يتوانَ في التفنن في القضاء على مظاهر الحضارة والمدنية واحدة تلو الأخرى..

لم نعرف شيئاً عن العام 2012 ولم يكلف المؤلف نفسه عناء تفسير ربطه لهذا التاريخ بحضارة المايا وأسطورة الفناء المزعومة، كما لم يهتم لكثير من القوانين الفيزيائية المعروفة، واستهان في أكثر من موضع بعقول مشاهديه في مقاطع بطولية مصطنعة، كصعود الطائرة في آخر لحظة قبل انهيار المدرج، أو سرعة السيارة القصوى على أسفلت متهاوي، أو هروب حافلة من حمم بركانية متناثرة تقضي على كل شيء إلا البطل وحافلته.. رغم أن الحمم تقتل بغازاتها السامة ونار لهيبها من مسافات بعيدة..
ولتكتمل الإثارة، حرص المخرج على وجود العنصر البشري الضعيف (الأم – الطفل – الابنة) في معظم المشاهد، فأخذ الأب ابنته الصغيرة في رحلة مجازفة للبحث عن حامل الخريطة، رغم أن بقاءها مع أمها أمان لهما أكبر، وأصر الابن (نوح)، الطفل، على اللحاق بأبيه تحت الماء لفك ترس عالق في عملية “انتحارية”..
ترى هل من ربط مقصود بين اسم الابن منقذ السفينة من الغرق، وقصة سيدنا نوح والطوفان والسفينة؟
العرب والمسلمون..
لم يظهر لهم أي دور، إلا في مشهدين لا يزيد وقتهما معاً عن 4 ثوان، الأول في صلاتهم حول الكعبة مثلهم مثل باقي البشر في لجوئهم للدين عند المصيبة، والثاني في نظرة احتقار لهم ضمن الركاب الأرستقراطيين الذين دفعوا مبالغ طائلة للحصول على تذكرة عبور لسفن النجاة الأربع.
